There are more than 40 million older adults in the United States and they are at the greatest risk of developing influenza. Every year, close to one million people will be hospitalized for flu-related symptoms. Individuals with other chronic health conditions are at higher risk for flu-related complications. Influenza and pneumonia combined are the 8th leading cause of death in the United States (2012).
We are committed to increasing the number of Medicare beneficiaries immunized for vaccine preventable illnesses with a focus on influenza, pneumonia and herpes zoster.
